Woodbury Ballfields
Woodbury, CT
The need for additional recreational fields for the youth sports teams of Woodbury was evident. This project was on a unique parcel of land that was owned by the regional school district, but was currently being utilized as a farm field and located within the floodplain of an adjacent river. CIVIL 1 designed a new recreational facility on the 34 acres to provide five baseball, softball, and multi-use playing fields.
CIVIL 1 worked together with several environmental consultants to provide the town with a field maintenance plan that would not have a negative impact on the water quality of the river or on the users of the fields. The approval process was extremely complex because of the current use of the property as an unregulated agricultural parcel and the need to change the use to a regulated activity for playing fields. It required an extremely high level of coordination to ensure the Wetlands Commission that the proposal would be a better environmental alternative than the continued farming use. |
